Breakfast:
Our Breakfast Program runs from 8:40 until 9:04. Please make sure your student gets to class as soon as they can to be able to get all of the nutritional time to eat their breakfast at their own pace. The breakfasts range from cereal, to muffins, to prepackaged french toast. If you are interested in what the meals are going to be, I will send home the menu for lunch and breakfast each month.

Tardy Bell:
School officially starts at 9:00. Students must be in our classroom before the bell rings or they will be marked tardy. It is very important that your child makes it to school on time.
Morning Work:
Every day of the week we will start out with a learning activity that students will work on after they eat breakfast. If they choose not to eat breakfast, they can start working on the activity right away.
We will be working on a journal that will include some work on grammar, math, phonics, and a challenge question of the day.
If you would like to volunteer, the morning would be a great time as we have such a wide variety of learning going on, an extra adult helping kids would be really nice.

Morning Circle:
Around 9:20 we will join together for our morning circle. At this meeting we go over our agenda for the day, review expectations for the classroom, and greet each other. This is often the time we take to share celebrations in students' lives as well.
Snack:
We have a daily snack in our class. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we get fresh fruit delivered to us. I ask that each family bring snack a week at a time to cover the Tuesday and Thursday of a week. The link below will take you to the snack schedule to find your week(s).

Math:
This year we have moved to a different math program called Go Math! I am looking forward to teaching this new curriculum, and will add more to this section as I become more comfortable with the program. The open optional program at Chinook has the ability to move students, according to their skills, to an appropriate learning grade level . This means that some of our class will be doing math with a different Open School teacher. I teach students in first grade math, and my partner teacher, Starr Henry, teaches the second grade math class.

Recess:
We have our recess prior to lunch at Chinook. This is due to a study that showed how much better eating after recess was for students' overall learning in the afternoon. We have recess everyday, unless the office determines there is a danger in the weather (rain, snow, or temperature). In cases such as these, we will have recess inside. We will go outside when the temperature is above -10 degrees. All students are required to go outside unless a doctor's note is provided.
Lunch:
We will eat lunch from 12:10-12:30. if you would like to come in to eat with your child, you are more than welcome. Please make sure you check in at the office and they will direct you where to go.
Going Home Routine:
School ends at 3:30. Please refrain from picking up your kiddo early, as we will be learning up to the last minute we can. If you are picking up your child, please work out a plan of WHERE to meet. You are welcome to wait just outside my exterior door. When the bell rings I always give the kids some good bye greeting.
